how to dress according to your body shape

HOW TO DRESS ACCORDING TO YOUR BODY TYPE- PART 1

You walked past a boutique or you decided to shop online and saw a beautiful cloth you love; you purchased it because the cloth looks so good, the cloth finally gets to you and you try it on only to realize it doesn’t fit.

Well, I have been in situations where I end up buying clothes I do not get to wear because it doesn’t suit my body type and I know how sad it feels to buy a cloth you thought was perfect and it doesn’t fit.

I get messages from my friends asking if a particular cloth/outfit would look good on them so I thought to myself to write a detailed blog post about it because a lot of women do not know the right cloth to wear.

Knowing about your body type and the right clothes that suit your body is a detailed and lengthy blog post so I will be writing in parts making it a ‘Blog series’, my first blog series actually.

WHAT IS BODY SHAPE

According to Wikipedia, Female body shape is the cumulative product of her skeletal structure and the quantity and distribution of muscle and fat on the body.

In a Nutshell, Female body shape is the body structure of a woman.

Understanding your body type is so important because;

  • It makes it easy for you to know the right cloth that would suit you
  • Helps in matching or knowing your style
  • Knowing your body type will help you know cloth irrespective of your body stature{ tall, short, curvy, slender}

PS- Be confident in whatever body type you fall under; there is no perfect body and God created us Unique in different ways.

THE DIFFERENT BODY SHAPE/TYPES

STRAIGHT OR RECTANGLE BODY SHAPE

A Straight body type has the same or almost the same measurements for all parts of their body; the vital parts{shoulder, bust, waist, hip}. Most supermodels have this type of body shape and it is often referred to as the ‘supermodel shape’. Some articles would call this body type a banana shape so don’t get confused when you see a banana shape.

PEAR/SPOON OR TRIANGLE BODY SHAPE

Just like the avocado pear that looks smaller at the upper section and larger at the bottom, the pear body shape has a smaller or tiny bust, smaller shoulders, and a larger hip. The pear body shape can also be referred to as a ‘ Triangle or a Spoon body shape’. The Spoon Shape is sometimes referred to as Figure 8.

APPLE BODY SHAPE

For an apple body shape, your bust is bigger than your hip. Larger bust, smaller hip, undefined waist falls under the apple body shape category and you add weight easily on the upper part of your body compared to other sections of your body.

INVERTED TRIANGLE SHAPE

The Inverted Triangle Shape is the same as the Apple Body Shape, the difference is that the Apple Shape is more fuller in the midsection than the inverted Triangle shape.

HOURGLASS BODY SHAPE

Just like the hourglass clock, the hourglass body shape has a well-defined waist, rounded buttocks, well-balanced bust, and buttocks. The bust and the buttocks are in the same proportion.

TOP HOURGLASS BODY SHAPE

This body shape is similar to the hourglass body shape. Your buttocks are bigger than your hips and your bust is bigger than the bust.

BOTTOM HOURGLASS BODY SHAPE

Also similar to the hourglass shape but the difference is that the bust is smaller than the hips unlike the top hourglass that the bust is bigger than the hips. I use to think I was under the bottom hourglass shape but I am actually an hourglass.

OVAL BODY SHAPE

Women with an oval body shape have a larger bust than the rest part of their body with a narrow hip. The waist is not defined and women with this body type add up easily around the stomach region which makes the waist the widest part of the body and buttocks are flat.

DIAMOND BODY SHAPE

Just like the oval body shape, if you have a diamond body shape you will gain more weight around the stomach region of your body. The difference between the oval and diamond body shape is that the diamond body shape has a narrow bust that aligns with the shoulders and they are not as wide as the oval body shape. you have slender arm and your legs are well-toned which makes it the best part of your body.

SKINNY BODY TYPE

Small bone structure is a major highlight of the skinny body type. You do not gain weight easily but you lose weight easily. Slim arms and legs, flat buttocks are all features of a skinny body shape

ATHLETIC BODY TYPE

You have a masculine body, well-toned curves, well-built shoulders, broad and long neck are features of an athletic body type. Most female athletes fall under this category.

LOLLIPOP BODY TYPE

Before now, I knew just the basic body shapes but there is a new body shape with a name ‘lollipop'{i know right}, the name reminds you of your favorite sweet/candy but do you know Angelina Jolie falls under this body type. A full, round bosom{bust}, slim waist and hips, long legs and broad shoulders are all characteristics of the lollipop body shape.
