10 WAYS OF PRACTICING SELF-CARE

Self-care is underrated and not practiced by people especially in these parts though it is not done intentionally, however, situations have made us have little or no time for ourselves; imagine a city like Lagos with so much traffic where hustle and bustle tends to be the order of the day one would barely have time to take care of his or her self.

Self-care is our general wellbeing physically mentally emotionally spiritually and even professionally for some persons.

“Self-care is not being selfish like some persons would think, it is having an ‘alone time’ to take care of yourself “

10 Ways of Practicing Self-care

1. Eat Good and Healthy Food and Healthy Drinks

Eating good food is very important; be conscious of the kind of food you eat to know if it is healthy or not, healthy drinks are also very good. I take a mixture of beetroot, apple, tomatoes, and carrots on an empty stomach in the morning before eating and my body is thanking me for it. Also, I take a mixture of spinach, celery-stalk, apple, and ginger. (thanks to my sister for hooking me up with these healthy drinks)

2. Write things you are grateful for

Take out time to write down the things you are thankful for.

3. Sleep Sleep Sleep

This might seem lazy but sleep is very important, as busy as I get I still find time to sleep between. Sleep for at least 8 hours a day.

4. Let go of things/people not needed

Declutter things you do not need again(clothes, shoes, etc), you could give them out instead of keeping and let go of negative vibes(people) around you.

5. Take a break

Take time off social media platforms, take a day off from work to rest and meditate

6. Exercise

You do not have to hit the gym to do exercises. You could find any physical activity that works best for you.

7. Write your thoughts in paper

I do this most times to ease burdens off my chest and it makes me less worried and happy.

8. Gift your inner child

Do some of the things you enjoyed doing as a child. I liked dancing as a child so I still dance in front of the mirror once in a while though my dancing skills are not so good anymore, I still do it anyways to keep me happy.

9. Give your body a treat

You could go to the spa or take a long bath or shower in your home

10. Speak or read out loud words of affirmation

From research, adding self-care to our routine reduces stress, reduces mental and physical ailment, increases productivity and makes us happy. I know we are too busy and occupied with work but we should try to incorporate the act of self-care either daily, weekly and we would be glad we did.
